Independent Chair, Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR)
£18,000 per annum
Hybrid, average of 6-8 days per month
We’re delighted to offer you a new and influential independent Chair role with the opportunity to add genuine value to the CIPR board by contributing demonstrable experience of chairing a professional body or similar voluntary organisation and applying the principles of good governance. This is the first time that the CIPR has recruited an independent Chair and it is a transformational time for our organisation.
The Chartered Institute of Public Relations is the world's only Royal Chartered professional body for public relations practitioners, with 11,000 members. Our members are recognised PR professionals. We work with and for them to set, maintain and advance standards. We do this through our industry respected qualifications; our Continuing Professional Development scheme, Accreditation and Chartership programmes; our open, in-house and bespoke training; our industry awards and conferences; and the production of research, best practice and skills guidance. Moreover, through our Code of Conduct and searchable PR registers, we make our members accountable to their employers, clients and the wider public.
You’ll be joining at an exciting but challenging time for the CIPR, as we implement actions from a comprehensive governance review leading to transformational change, with the intention of improving diversity of thinking at board level. Your leadership and support for our Chief Executive will be crucial during this time.
The Board provide strong leadership, direction and expertise to the governance of the CIPR and has the legal duty to protect the mission and vision of the CIPR and to ensure that it is run in accordance with legal requirements.
Our board meets at least six times a year, with four run virtually and two in-person away-days. The virtual meetings last approximately three hours.
To be considered for this important role you will need considerable senior leadership and non-executive experience with a strong preference for those who have chairing experience of similar organisations and can demonstrate a commitment to advancing EDI.
Whilst the CIPR is openly committed to appointing the best possible candidate, we particularly welcome applications from under-represented communities to join our Board.
