The 2025 Memcom Excellence Awards Digital Category celebrates how organisations are harnessing technology to deliver value, improve experiences and strengthen their connection with members and stakeholders.

This year’s Best Use of Technology shortlist reflects an inspiring range of innovation. Each finalist has shown how smart, well-executed digital solutions can achieve real impact, whether through streamlining processes, unlocking new opportunities, or creating more personalised engagement.

From education and professional development to member loyalty and operational efficiency, these finalists prove that technology, when used strategically, can transform the way organisations serve their communities.

Here’s a brief look at their standout contributions;

British College of Dermatology Education

Launched in 2023, the BCD Education Hub delivers interactive, multimedia dermatology training to GPs, pharmacists and the wider skin health workforce. Rich in clinical imagery, patient voices and case studies, the platform connects learning directly to referral guidelines and NHS priorities, helping a small specialty extend its reach to tens of thousands of practitioners.

With rapid growth in users, completions and engagement, it is transforming access to high-quality, evidence-based dermatology education.

British Dietetic Association – Entered by Pixl8 Group

Faced with a critical systems failure, the BDA transformed its operations by launching a fully integrated membership platform combining Pixl8’s MX system with BlueCRM. The upgrade streamlined processes, enhanced self-service, and gave staff a single, reliable view of member data.

With reduced attrition, rising membership and significantly improved efficiency, the new platform has strengthened engagement, unlocked new revenue streams, and positioned the association for sustainable growth.

Building Engineering Services Association

BESA has introduced immersive Virtual Reality to educate members and the wider sector, launching interactive content that brings complex regulations, such as the Building Safety Act, to life.

Combining creative storytelling with measurable engagement gains, the initiative strengthens BESA’s role as a sector leader and provides a scalable foundation for future-ready member experiences.

Fire Industry Association – Entered by Smartimpact

The FIA has embedded a bespoke AI ecosystem, smartAI, across its operations, introducing over 50 role-specific assistants that streamline tasks from research and training development to legal advice and finance.

Delivering a 25% productivity boost – equivalent to 1,500 working days saved in the first year – the system has enhanced member services, supported training and membership growth, and increased organisational agility.

Heart of England Co-operative Society – Entered by Smartimpact

The Society transformed member recruitment by launching an instant, mobile-first sign-up journey, enabling customers to join, pay, and receive a digital membership card in under 60 seconds.

Seamlessly integrated with existing systems and rolled out across all stores to a fixed launch date, the solution delivered rapid adoption, flawless performance, and a strong reputational boost, positioning the Co-op as a digital leader without losing its community-first ethos.

Institution of Structural Engineers

Informed by feedback from a research sample of over 3,000 of its 30,000 members, the Institution launched a fully branded, single sign-on Online Community to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing and to build professional connections.

Delivered with Cantarus, the platform has already attracted thousands of users, significantly increased peer-to-peer engagement, and become a cornerstone of the Institution’s long-term, tech-enabled member engagement strategy.

A huge congratulations to all six shortlisted organisations, each of your submissions reflect the evolving role of digital in creating stronger, smarter, more accessible membership experiences.

The Memcom Excellence Awards Ceremony will take place on Thursday 25 September at the Royal Lancaster London.
