The shortlist for Best Inclusion Initiative showcases organisations that are taking bold steps to build more inclusive environments. From professional bodies to trade associations, each has recognised the importance of ensuring all voices are heard, valued, and supported, whether through governance, recruitment, education, or member engagement. Together, these initiatives reflect a sector-wide commitment to equity and belonging.
Association for Project Management
APM has placed inclusivity at the heart of its culture, guided by the principle of making changes that are “vital for some, valuable for all.” Over the last year, it has introduced a suite of neurodiversity initiatives, including policy updates, training, recruitment support, and the launch of a dedicated employee resource group. Externally, accessibility improvements have been introduced into qualifications, events, and professional standards.
These actions have not only created a more supportive environment for employees and members but also signalled a cultural shift towards openness and belonging across the profession.

Association of Accounting Technicians
AAT has refreshed its bursary scheme to remove barriers for disadvantaged individuals and broaden access to accountancy careers. By doubling the number of bursaries available and simplifying the application process, AAT has created new pathways for people from diverse backgrounds to progress. The scheme covers comprehensive costs, from training to assessments, while offering tailored support throughout the learner journey. Importantly, the selection process has been redesigned to counter bias and involve lived experience in decision-making.
This initiative demonstrates a sustained commitment to social mobility and transforming diversity within the accounting profession.

British Pest Control Association
BPCA is embedding equity, diversity and inclusion into the heart of its sector to tackle both recruitment challenges and representation gaps. Through the creation of a permanent EDI Committee, the development of a practical toolkit, and new recruitment resources, the Association is helping members to adopt more inclusive practices. Initiatives such as careers hubs, presentation templates, and an onboarding framework are designed to attract and retain a more diverse workforce, while changing perceptions of the industry.
These steps represent a strategic, long-term investment in ensuring the pest management sector is welcoming and sustainable.

Professional Publishers Association
The PPA has transformed industry governance by embedding inclusivity into decision-making structures. Its Next Gen Board, a formal subcommittee of the PPA Board of Directors, gives rising talent direct influence over strategy and policy – an approach unique among UK trade associations. Alongside this, initiatives such as the Next Gen Network and the Find Yourself in Publishing campaign provide resources, mentoring, and visibility for underrepresented voices in the sector.
The model has already inspired adoption across PPA member organisations, setting a precedent for structural inclusivity that extends far beyond the Association itself.

Royal College of Occupational Therapists
RCOT has undertaken a profound journey to place equity, diversity and belonging at the core of its work. Through extensive consultation with members, staff, and service users, it co-produced a new EDB Strategy and action plan. This is now shaping governance, staff culture, and member engagement through practical steps such as trustee recruitment reforms, staff networks, member-led advisory groups, and educational resources.
With almost 60% of staff engaged in networks and strong uptake of its critical self-awareness toolkit, RCOT has created tangible impact while acknowledging the need for continued learning and accountability.

Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health
RCPCH has strengthened its commitment to inclusivity by introducing initiatives that support underrepresented groups within the paediatrics profession. This has included updating policies, creating resources to help members embed inclusive practice, and engaging staff and young people in shaping its approach. The College has prioritised ensuring that diverse voices influence its work, fostering a culture that reflects the communities its members serve.
Through these steps, RCPCH is building a professional environment where equity and belonging are not just aspirations but a practical reality for members and the patients they care for.

The organisations shortlisted for Best Inclusion Initiative have each demonstrated how meaningful change can be achieved when inclusion is embedded into structures, strategies, and culture. Their initiatives highlight the power of listening, co-creation, and representation in shaping fairer, more equitable professions – and collectively, they set a standard for the wider membership sector to follow.

The Memcom Excellence Awards Ceremony will take place on Thursday 25 September at the Royal Lancaster London.
