2018 memcom award categories announced

Hot off the press! Your preparation for the 2018 memcom membership excellence awards starts right here as a line-up of 29 hugely coveted awards is announced…


Award entry and details of all criteria open in a few weeks but now is the time to browse through the line-up and get your thinking caps on. Which trophy (or indeed trophies) could be yours next year?


There are 29 prestigious awards in total, split into three main categories:


  • innovation category – from social mobility and equality / diversity, to leadership and outstanding contribution to society, these awards highlight the positive impact that our sector has on professions and society as a whole
  • people category – from staff to suppliers and also volunteers, the people awards celebrate the positive impact that both individuals and teams have on the sector and the professions, giving the opportunity to offer public recognition to the people behind the achievements
  • marketing, communications and membership excellence category – from campaigns to products, magazines to events, these awards celebrate the strategic and tactical creativity which drive up membership standards in the sector

Those of you familiar to memcom may notice the introduction of 14 new awards this year such as the ‘Game Changer Award’ –  which celebrates those ideas which genuinely have the power to revolutionise the way your organisation or sector works – the ‘Best Campaign on a Shoestring Award – recognising the investment of time and effort which goes into making a low-cost campaign with impact – and Best Student Engagement Initiative Award’ – appreciating the role played by professional associations in increasing engagement amongst students, junior members and young people.

Do you think your CEO deserves an award?Arguably the most prestigious award for an individual within the professional associations sector, The Louis Armstrong CEO Leadership Award is unique and recognises true leadership of a professional body or trade association. The 2018 award will be made to a Chief Executive (current or recently retired) who in the opinion of the judges has provided outstanding leadership and demonstrated how the organisation has advanced under their leadership, having an impact on not just the profession but also on the economy and society at large. Please do consider nominating your CEO for this highly coveted award.


Background to the memcom membership excellence awards

The annual memcom membership excellence awards celebrate the success of professional associations, membership organisations and the wider non-profit sector. They showcase the best of the best. Taking place in May each year, the awards are hugely respected throughout the industry and winning an award highlights you and your team as sector leaders. The awards are independently judged by a panel of esteemed sector leaders.

The 2017 memcom membership excellence awards were the biggest that memcom had ever seen, with a 45% increase in award entries and a sell-out awards lunch event at the stunning riverside location of County Hall, London. 


The 2018 awards event takes place on May 16th at County Hall, London and tickets will go on sale in the new year. Save the date!
