Education initiatives play a critical role in professional growth and sector development. The Best Education Initiative award recognises programmes that deliver meaningful learning, innovative approaches, and impact across the sector.

This year’s shortlisted organisations demonstrate a range of creative and effective ways to support learners at different career stages:

Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment

The CISI’s Certificate in Ethical AI equips financial services professionals with the skills to apply artificial intelligence responsibly. Launched in 2023 as part of the Lord Mayor’s Ethical AI Initiative, the online programme combines core content on ethics, transparency, accountability, and inclusivity with flexible modules tailored to different roles. Freely available to universities and adopted by regulators, firms, and banks in over 60 countries, it has reached more than 6,500 learners.

Regularly updated and scalable, the programme supports professionals in navigating AI with confidence and integrity.

Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers

CIBSE’s Flush Challenge introduces primary school students to the world of building services engineering through playful, hands-on learning. Participants design efficient toilet flushing systems, combining problem-solving, teamwork, and sustainability with gamified learning. Developed with STEM Learning and supported by CIBSE STEM Ambassadors, the initiative has inspired over 400 students, with teachers praising its accessibility and impact.

Funded by The Manly Trust and designed for scalability, the programme strengthens the STEM pipeline while showcasing diverse career opportunities in engineering.

Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation

CIHT’s inclusive e-learning programme equips transport and infrastructure professionals with the knowledge to design accessible, equitable public spaces and transport systems. Developed in collaboration with organisations representing blind, partially sighted, and dementia-affected communities, the courses combine bite-sized learning, real-world case studies, and expert insight. Hundreds of learners have engaged with the content since launch, reporting its relevance and practical value.

By offering free and affordable access, CIHT is raising sector-wide awareness of inclusion and accessibility, helping professionals design transport systems that work for everyone.

Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine

FPM’s “Managing Respiratory Diseases” eLearning programme supports healthcare and pharmaceutical professionals in responding to COVID-19, influenza, and RSV. Delivered via the NHS Learning Hub, the modular, interactive course combines case-based activities, expert lectures, gamification, and downloadable resources. The programme strengthens understanding of treatments, regulatory issues, and patient-centred care, while promoting preventative strategies such as vaccination and telemedicine.

Since launch, hundreds of learners have engaged with the content, reporting practical benefits in professional practice. FPM provides accessible, high-quality training that supports a more resilient healthcare workforce.

Royal College of Physicians

The RCP’s “Call the Medical Registrar” (CTMR) online conference supports doctors transitioning from Internal Medicine Training to the medical registrar role, addressing clinical responsibility and leadership challenges. Launched in 2021, the one-day, multi-stream event combines live and on-demand content, interactive Q&As, and sessions on acute emergencies, leadership, and wellbeing. Developed collaboratively with trainee doctors and the Resident Doctors Committee, CTMR ensures inclusive, relevant content.

Attendance has grown each year, with thousands of delegates reporting improved confidence and competence.

The initiative provides flexible, high-impact professional development that supports safer, more effective patient care.

The Nuclear Institute

The Nuclear Institute developed free, engaging resources to inspire Key Stage 4 students (ages 14–16) in nuclear science, addressing the sector’s future workforce needs. The initiative includes an introductory video, a 30-minute lesson plan, and additional materials on nuclear energy, medicine, careers, and sustainability. Classroom-ready and designed to support teachers, the resources encourage students to explore STEM and diverse career paths. Over 120 teachers have downloaded the materials, reaching thousands of students.

By providing accessible, high-quality content on a modest budget, the initiative supports the next generation of nuclear professionals.
